The five nominees in the Outstanding Aboriginal Recording category of the Western Canadian Music Awards will be celebrated and showcased at the “Aboriginal Nominee Honouring Ceremony” on Thursday, November 19 at the Garrick Conference and Event Centre (330 Garry Street) in Winnipeg. The show will be open to the public, with tickets available for $12.50 at Ticketmaster.

The Aboriginal Nominee Honouring Ceremony is presented by the Arrowhead Development Corporation, the economic development arm of the Long Plain First Nation Government. The event has been organized by the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Host Committee Inc. and the Western Canadian Music Alliance with the support of the Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association’s Aboriginal Music Program. Native Communications Inc. has made a significant contribution to the event by way of radio advertisements on NCI FM, which reaches Aboriginal people throughout the entire province.

“We’re doing this because the WCMA are in Winnipeg this year and we feel that it’s important to include Aboriginal recording artists in all big music events in Manitoba,” explains Errol Ranville, Executive Producer for the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Host Committee Inc. “We also want the world to know that the Aboriginal music community in Manitoba is willing and able to contribute to the development of music festivals, music award shows and other industry events.”

The nominees are: Eagle & Hawk, Andrea Menard, Don Freed, Donna Kay and Art Napoleon. Each of the nominees will perform at the Aboriginal Nominee Honouring Ceremony and receive gifts from the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Host Committee Inc. in recognition of their talent and accomplishments in Canada’s music industry.

Heather Ostertag, President and CEO of the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings, Dean Brokop, Executive Director of the Western Canadian Music Alliance, Sam Baardman, Executive Director of the Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association, Dave McLeod, Executive Director of Native Communications Inc. and Tim Daniels of the Arrowhead Development Corporation will be on hand to present gifts to the nominees on behalf of the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Host Committee throughout the two-hour show.

A Red Carpet Event will also take place from 6:30 pm – 7:45 pm. Members of the media are invited to attend. The nominees will be available for on-site interviews from 7:15 pm – 7:45 pm.
