WCMA Announces Keynote Interview, Nic Harcourt

Nic Harcourt will be sharing his insight on today's music industry.

Nic will be interviewed by music maven Ritch Esra.

Regarded as being the ultimate musical “tastemaker” in music and named the “most influential DJ in America”, NIC HARCOURT has been an innovator as Music Director over last ten years at the influential Los Angeles radio station, KCRW, and as the host of the highly acclaimed music programs, “MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC” and "SOUNDS ECLECTIC”.

Nic has through the years been an early champion of a full spectrum of artists including COLDPLAY, DIDO, MOBY, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, MASSIVE ATTACK, SIGUR ROS, INTERPOL, FRANZ FERDINAND, KT TUNSTALL, ARCADE FIRE, DAMIEN RICE, JEM, PETE YORN, DAVID GRAY, THE TING TINGS and NORAH JONES.

Nic’s talents have made him uniquely suited to select innovative music for motion pictures, television and commercials.  Nic has worked as a music consultant and/ or music supervisor for such television shows as “90210”, “QUEER AS FOLK”, “LIFE AS WE KNOW IT", "IN JUSTICE", “WHAT ABOUT BRIAN” AND “LOVE MONKEY” (for which he was also a Co-Producer), as well as advertising campaigns for MITSUBISHI MOTORS, APPLE’S IPOD and VICTORIA’S SECRET. Nic has helped to select music for the motion pictures ICE AGE, ICE AGE II, ANCHORMAN, IGBY GOES DOWN, GONE BABY GONE, PRIDE AND GLORY, DUKES OF HAZZARD, HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU, POST GRAD SURVIVAL GUIDE and the upcoming movie FIREFLIES IN THE GARDEN.  He has also compiled and produced several volumes of live performance CD's under the SOUNDS ECLECTIC name and completed and released his first book, MUSIC LUST (Sasquatch Books). For the last two years, Nic was the “voice of Land Rover” for all of their television and radio commercials.

Nic serves as an Editor-at-large for Music and Culture at the LA TIMES MAGAZINE. He also produced and hosted a monthly segment called “Second Sunday with Nic Harcourt”, on the television show “BREAKFAST WITH THE ARTS” for the A&E network, which focuses on new and emerging musical talent. He has filmed episodes which include interviews and performances from such artists as REM , DAMIEN RICE, SI SE, BRAZILIAN GIRLS, GUSTER and THE PINKER TONES.

RITCH ESTRA
Ritch Esra started out as a promotion coor for A&M Records in Los Angeles in 1980-81.  From 1981-1987, Ritch was director of West Coast A&R for Arista Records. From 1988-1991, Ritch worked on various independent projects. He produced the award-winning educational video for artists and musicians, "How to Get a Record Deal.

From 1992 to the present, Ritch has been the Co-Publisher and Editor of the Music Business Registry, the Music Industry’s leading publisher of contact information for the Music Business.

In addition he has been an instructor at the Trebas Institute of Recording Arts in Los Angeles, where he was the chief Instructor as well as at UCLA Extension, USC, SAE teaching several courses including:  A&R The Heartbeat of the Record Company, which focused on the artist signing policies of major and independent record labels, Music Business Overview, a course designed to give students an understanding of the many aspects of the Music Industry.  He was a member of the board of advisors for the Department of Performing Arts at UCLA for 3 years 1990 - 1993, and initiated full day seminars and discussion panels on the music business as well as created new course ideas and methods for expanding programs to keep students enrolled in the UCLA Extention program.
