Aboriginal Day 2010 Celebrations in Winnipeg
Don Amero will be taking the stage for close to 10,000 people at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg on June 20 for the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network’s Aboriginal Day Live concert. He’ll be joined by Chantal Kreviazuk, Red Power Squad, Jana Mashonee, Keith Secola, and Tumivut for the nationally televised event.
As in previous years, the celebrations for National Aboriginal Day, start earlier in the week and take place in a number of venues around Winnipeg. The Manito Ahbee Festival has a concert and pow wow planned, while the Casinos of Winnipeg have The Aboriginal Express ready to go. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission has two major concerts planned for their first National Event and Heatbag Records have a hip hop talent contest and two nightclub shows scheduled.
As an added bonus for fans of Aboriginal music, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra has a great week of programming lined up for their second annual Indigenous Festival, which will run June 21 - 24.
Check the event listings below and please send details for any other concerts or pow wows to Alan Greyeyes (alan@manitobamusic.com).
