Aboriginal Songwriters in Residence with Don Amero and Jason Tuesday

Manitoba Music’s Aboriginal Music Program and Ndinawemaaganag Endaawaad Inc. are partnering to present the Aboriginal Songwriters in Residence with Don Amero and Jason Tuesday. The residency will run July 22 and 23 and it includes six one-on-one consultation spots at the Manitoba Music Resource Centre along with a Community Jam Session at Ndinawe’s North End Arts Centre from 6pm - 8pm on July 22. Registration is free for Aboriginal youth between 14 and 29 years of age and members of Manitoba Music.

The Community Jam Session with Don Amero & Jason Tuesday

Don Amero and Jason Tuesday will lead a two-hour jam session for Aboriginal youth at Ndinawe’s North End Arts Centre. Please bring an instrument, a song you want help finishing, or just your interest in live music. Don and Jason will take turns playing some of their songs and provide musical support to any youth interested in songwriting or making beats. Space is limited, so please register in advance with Niki Little, Ndinawe’s Art Program Coordinator (art@ndinawe.ca).

Growing up in the North End of Winnipeg, acoustic musician Don Amero has definitely faced his share of adversity. With poverty, gangs, drugs and violence as daily reminders of the harshness of the world, Don’s life was nevertheless tempered by love, support and the knowledge that a Greater Power was intimately involved in his life. Shaped and molded by his coming of age, his music now carries both the depth of experiencing hardship and the luminosity of experiencing hope. All who have the pleasure of listening to his music will no doubt leave with his encouraging message of positivity lifting their spirits.

Don has released two albums to date and recently earned the titled of “Best Male Artist” and “Aboriginal Song¬writer of the Year” from the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and Canadian Folk Music Awards, respectively.
