CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: MusicSkills, Spring Session

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: NOON, Friday, May 27, 2011

Manitoba Music is pleased to announce a spring session to its innovative MusicSkills program. This program was developed to educate and train industry workers, entrepreneurs, and artists with the business skills and industry knowledge they need in order to fully reach their potential for success. Taught by today’s top professionals, this exciting program delivers free, intensive and direct training, tailored to meet each individual’s own career goals.

Manitoba Music is now accepting applications for two exciting professional development opportunities:

1. Production for Songwriters
Knowing how to instantly record songs presents songwriters with more co-writing opportunities and placements in film and television. MusicSkills will offer a series of one-on-one mentor sessions for songwriters who want to increase their skills as recording engineers and producers. These sessions will be delivered by established songwriter/producers who will help participants build a working portable studio and learn the recording and production skills to further increase their market potential.

2. Tour Management and Live Sound
In today’s market place, the jobs of the tour manager and sound technician are increasingly becoming one and the same. Knowing how to skillfully perform both duties will significantly increase one’s opportunities for employment. MusicSkills will offer a series of workshops for tour managers who want to learn more about live sound mixing; sound technicians who want to learn how to manage a tour; and interested musicians and managers who want to learn both. The workshops will be delivered by experienced industry professionals to a small group of selected participants who will learn skills to further increase their market potential.
