Manitoba Music is bringing back its popular mentor program for Aboriginal artists this spring. Run through its Aboriginal Music Program (AMP), “AMP Mentors” was launched to engage new and emerging First Nation, Inuit, and Métis songwriters and musicians in Manitoba.

The diverse group of experienced mentors includes fiddle champion Patti Lamoureux, blues legend Billy Joe Green, hip hop producer Tim “2oolman” Hill, rock veteran Calvin Nepinak, classical vocalist Rhonda Head, and publicist Kim Wheeler.

Mentor sessions will touch on a variety of creative and business-oriented topics, including career advice, instrument lessons, songwriting feedback, beat-making tutorials, and feedback on media releases and artist bios.

Starting March 2, two mentors will be available each week, with in-person bookings primarily in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. Rhonda Head will be available for consultations and group presentations in Opaskwayak Cree Nation and the surrounding area.

One-hour mentor consultations and presentations will be free of charge and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bookings can be made through Manitoba Music’s Aboriginal Music Program Manager, Alan Greyeyes (alan@manitobamusic.com, 204.975.0284).

Past mentors have included Desiree DorionDon Amero, Tracy Bone, Vince Fontaine, RoseAnna Schick, and more.

Manitoba Music's Aboriginal Music Program was launched in 2004 to help First Nation, Inuit, and Métis people in Manitoba develop sustainable careers in music by connecting them with opportunities within Manitoba Music and beyond.
